About PixelCheck
PixelCheck exists because screen defects are judged with your eyes, and your eyes need something honest to look at: pure colors, clean gradients, controlled motion. Every test on this site is built on that idea — a fullscreen of exactly the right color or pattern, with nothing else in the way.
How the tests work
Each tool is HTML and JavaScript running in your browser. The dead pixel test cycles pure full-field colors; the gradient tests draw mathematically smooth sweeps; the ghosting test animates a block with CSS transforms; the refresh rate counter reads your browser animation frame clock. No video compression, no player chrome, no download — the colors you see are the colors the browser was asked to draw, pixel for pixel.
What we will never do
Ask you to install anything, create an account, or hand over data to see a test result. The tests work on laptops, desktops, tablets, and phones; the guides apply to all of them. When a defect is not fixable, the guides say so plainly instead of selling hope — the can-you-fix-a-dead-pixel guide is the clearest example.
Who builds it
An independent team of display nerds who got tired of twenty-year-old test pages and video-player-based "tests". The site is free, funded by advertising and clearly labeled retail referrals — see the disclosures page for exactly where the lines are drawn.
