Ghosting & Motion Blur Test

A sharp-moving square on a dark background makes panel response time visible. A smeared trail means slow pixel transitions; a bright halo means overshoot (inverse ghosting) from aggressive overdrive settings.

Click Start. Watch the moving square — a dark or bright trail behind it is ghosting.

How to use this test

Click Start — the test opens fullscreen over this page (nothing is installed, nothing leaves your browser). A control bar at the bottom of the screen lets you switch colors and exit with one tap — touch screens included; the Esc key and your browser's back button work too. Judge the screen in the lighting the test asks for; judging bleed or uniformity in a bright room defeats the test.

Frequently asked questions

What causes ghosting?

Slow pixel response time. LCDs take milliseconds to change color; if the next frame arrives first, the old image "ghosts" behind.

What is inverse ghosting?

The opposite: a bright halo from overdrive set too aggressively. Often worse than the blur it cures.
